When Resilience is Impaired

Understanding why and how the resilience of systems is impaired can help us discover how they can be revitalized and rendered even more robust.

There is a great body of work on the impairment of resilience associated with many diseases and health challenges. The following are a few prominent examples selected from categories covered by hospitals and other healthcare providers in community needs assessments as required by federal law. Even a brief Internet search will confirm the strong linkage of impaired resilience to these health challenges.

In the following, we survey many examples of where health and resilience is impaired and how building resilience can improve many health conditions.
